Vittel water

VITTEL gourmet water emphasizes sustainable, environmentally friendly use of natural resources, because only in a clean environment can a pure mineral water arise. To protect this valuable resource, research institutes, local environmental protection organizations, and farmers work hand in hand. In the region around Vittel in France, the journey of the water through the volcanic rock of the Vosges lasts 15 years. Only slowly does it make its way through the three layers Keuper, Muschelkalk, and Buntsandstein. It is filtered naturally. In a long process, it dissolves the minerals calcium and magnesium from the volcanic rock. A natural, still mineral water arises. To preserve the quality of the mineral water, a 650-hectare sanctuary was built around the spring, which is analyzed daily by hydrogeologists in terms of physical, chemical and microbiological aspects. The "catchment area", the 6,000-hectare catchment area, which also influences the spring water, is also subject to strict controls. To protect the soil, roads leading through the area are lined with geomembranes that are impermeable to the often leaking leachate. Drain channels direct the drainage water into catch basins where it is treated.
