Vichy Catalan

VICHY CATALAN water was first bottled in 1889, and an influx of visitors led to the construction of a spa soon after. Water and carbon dioxide gas are harvested separately from the source after the water has cooled the gas is added back in. Archaeological evidence suggests that the area near Caldes de Malavella has had a human population since prehistoric times. The many local sources of effervescent, thermal water were likely a major attraction. The origins and history of Vichy Catalán are closely connected with the figure of Dr. Modest Furest y Roca, a recognized physician of his time. In 1880, he purchased what is today the properties making up the spa, which opened in 1898. The waters were declared of public utility by Royal Order on 5 March 1883, and the Vichy Catalan brand registered in May 1890. Best drunk cold for a better appreciation of its organoleptic properties, Vichy Catalan also contains trace amounts of Lithium. The blend of carbon dioxide, sodium, and bicarbonate give an agreeable taste and a highly characteristic sparkling sensation on the tongue and palate.
